Vehicles & structures

  • 1 x vehicle pass will be issued to each team. This will allow access into the Pits and is not interchangeable (more vehicle passes on request and at the discretion of the organisers). There is extra parking within 200 metres of the pits which is free for extra vehicles.
  • Vehicles with pit access that are higher than 3 metres will need to be ready to cross the circuit into the pits no later than 07:15 and will not be able to leave by the same route until 19:45.
  • The height of the in tunnel to the pits is 3 metres – the out tunnel is 2.2 metres.
  • Teams using temporary structures must not tie them down to any vehicle, fencing, or drill into the tarmac. You may be asked to take down any structure that is deemed unstable by the organisers.
  • Vehicle movement between the hours of 07:00-20:00 in the pits must be less than 5 mph with hazard lights on.
  • No vehicles are allowed on the circuit or in the pit lane.
  • We cannot supply power to any temporary structures.
  • No wires or trip hazards will be allowed.
  • We suggest you weigh down your structure from within its own foot print.

Registration

  • All riders must be 16 or over at the time of the ride.
  • Registration will be held in the briefing room next to the terrace café in the pits.
  • Registration times are:
    • For 12 hour challenge 06:00 -07:15. At least one rider (the first to ride) for your team needs to have registered in this time.
    • For 8 hour 08:00-11:15. At least one rider (the first to ride) for your team needs to have registered in this time.
  • Registration will remain open until 17:00.
  • You will need to show photo ID at the briefing before you ride.
  • Any riders under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign for them at registration.
  • To ride you must have signed an indemnity at registration and be wearing the wristband provided.
  • Mixed team means at least one member of the team is a different sex.
  • Each member of a team must complete at least five full laps.
  • Minimum amount of riders who can register in a team is 4. Maximum number of riders is 8. Your team will be disqualified if more.
  • No substitute riders are allowed.
  • At registration you will receive:
    • 1st rider only. Timing chip attached to ankle strap
    • 1 x race number and pins to attach to your back
    • 1 x race information pack.

Cyclothon UK ride criteria, rules & information

  • Only road/mountain style bikes are allowed to compete in the competitive categories. Tandems, Recumbents and HPV can enter but only in the fun categories.
  • The organisers’ decision is final.
  • The start of the ride is on the whistle at 07:30 for the 12hr & 11:30 for the 8hr
  • One rider with the team timing chip from each team will run to their bike, mount and then cross the start line at this time.
  • Clips may impede the run to your bike for the Len Mans start which is at least 50 metres.
  • You may put your clips by your bike and run in other footwear.
  • Wearing a helmet is compulsory when riding.
  • This is a non-contact ride and disqualification may result if you are deemed to have impeded others on the circuit or in the pit lane.
  • The circuit is one way (clockwise). Your team may face disqualification if you go the wrong way.
  • Laps are counted electronically at the start/finish line. Your team will be disqualified if you ride over the line without completing one full circuit inbetween.
  • Laps are only valid if you remain on the circuit between the start line and the finish line. Please be aware of the marshals’ flags. Yellow means caution. Red means stop.
  • In the case of punctures or bike malfunction you must leave the tarmac and fix your bike on the run-off verge.
  • If you are unable to fix your bike or are injured then put your hand up and wait for an emergency or rescue vehicle to come to your aid.
  • You may walk back to the pits (clockwise only) with your bike again using the run- off verge and not on the tarmac of the race circuit.
  • If you cut across the infield to get back to the pits you will receive a one lap penalty. If you are transported back to the pits then you will receive a one lap penalty.
  • Fun categories mean non competitive. All other categories are competitive.
  • You only have one chip that needs to be transferred between team riders. Chip transfer is only permitted in the pit lane.
  • Only one member of any team at any time can ride on the circuit.
  • Access to the circuit for unofficial persons or the non riding team members is prohibited.
  • It is your responsibility to keep a log of who is riding at what time.
  • Your team rider number must be worn at all times when riding.
  • Be courteous to other riders. Aggression to others will result in team disqualification.
  • The end of the ride is at 19:30 + 1 lap. Winners will have the chance to stand on the podium after the results have been counted and verified.
  • The organiser reserves the right to move teams into other categories and to cancel categories at their discretion.

General rules & regulations

  • No cooking of any sort will be allowed at the event
  • No generators
  • No glass
  • No pets are allowed within Brands Hatch even if locked in a vehicle
  • No loud music allowed in the pits
  • If you have a ½ a pit garage please be courteous to your co pit sharing team Power supply, wires & cables
  • The only power supplies available are those within the pit garages. Other power outlets are not suitable for use.
  • Teams must ensure that all trailing cables, hoses and other trip hazards are covered by trip mats. In particular, cables, hoses or wires must not cross access routes unless they are covered by trip mats. Any power cables running from pit garages may only power equipment immediately in front of the relevant garage, and not any other vehicle(s)/equipment outside the immediate vicinity of the pit garage. Removal of goods & materials
  • At the end of the Ride, Teams must clear and remove all of their property and other materials from the Venue, other than those provided by MSV. Any items remaining after the event may be removed or disposed of by VU and the Team shall reimburse the cost of such disposal/ removal on demand by VU. Responsibility for loss or damage
  • Teams shall be responsible for any damage caused and will reimburse VU on demand for any cost of repair or replacement, damage to or loss of such equipment to be reimbursed within 14 days of a demand from VU.

Safety checks

  • Each Team must inform all riders that it is, and remains, their responsibility to ensure that any cycle or vehicle they intend to use on circuit is safe and suitable
